KISSIMMEE — Wednesday, Nov. 4, Rep. Darren Soto released the following statement after winning the race for Florida’s Ninth Congressional District.

“I am humbled and grateful that the good people of Florida’s Ninth Congressional District have chosen me to represent them in Washington once again. It has been the honor of my life to serve in Congress and fight for such a vibrant and distinctive community for the last decade. I look forward to continuing that work.

“Despite the Florida Republican legislature’s efforts to redraw me out of this district, my record of delivering for Florida showed voters that I am a reliable fighter for them in Congress. I have spoken to voters across this new district, from Orange to Osceola to Polk to Indian River to Okeechobee to Highlands and to Glades, about the issues they are facing and how I can best serve them. Across the district, voters shared their struggles to afford basic necessities as costs rise, including groceries to feed their families, gas to get to work and appointments, and health insurance to help keep them healthy. They also want us to tackle rampant corruption in Washington. Across the political spectrum, voters agree that our community shines when it is cleaner, safer, and more affordable.

“I want to commend my opponent, Dan Green, on a hard-fought race and for his service to our country. I promise to represent his supporters, as they are part of this incredible district. I also want to thank my hardworking staff and our tremendous supporters and volunteers who spent hours knocking on doors, calling voters, and rallying their neighbors. This was a homegrown win, and I am tremendously thankful for the support. Now let’s get to work!”
