Dr. Alice Beth Barfield named finalist for four NASS 2026 Awards

MOORE HAVEN — The National Association of School Superintendents is proud to announce that Dr. Alice Beth Barfield, Superintendent of Glades County School District, has been named a finalist for the Excellence in Finesse and Agility Award, Power Leadership Under 2,500 Students Award, Excellence in Innovative Initiative Award, and the Superintendent of the Year Award in the NASS 2026 national recognition program.

Dr. Alice Beth Barfield is a finalist for the Excellence in Finesse and Agility Award, which recognizes understanding and managing responses to differing needs, expectations, and viewpoints. Dr. Alice Beth Barfield is a finalist for the Power Leadership Under 2,500 Students Award, which recognizes demonstrating overall leadership excellence in a district serving fewer than 2,500 students. Dr. Alice Beth Barfield is a finalist for the Excellence in Innovative Initiative Award, which recognizes pioneering strategies focused on success for all. Dr. Alice Beth Barfield is a finalist for the Superintendent of the Year Award, which recognizes extraordinary leadership and contributions to public education.

Leadership and Impact

Under Dr. Barfield’s leadership, Glades County School District moved from Florida’s lowest designation to an A rating within five years, increased its graduation rate to 90 percent, raised beginning teacher salaries, expanded career and technical education, and created the Moore Haven High School Collegiate Academy, through which students earn associate degrees while completing high school.

Dr. Barfield’s finalist recognition reflects a sustained focus on transformational rural leadership, high expectations, and expanded opportunity. The selection highlights leadership that translates clear purpose into measurable opportunities and outcomes for students, staff, families, and the broader community.
