IMMOKALEE — In a powerful full-circle moment, Adriana Antonio-Lopez went from learning in the classroom as a young mother to leading one. Now, the Guadalupe Center educator has earned the 2025 Infant and Toddler Educator of the Year award from the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children, one of the state’s highest honors in early childhood education.

Her journey began in Guadalupe Center’s Smart Start program, where she attended parenting classes with her first child. Moved by the life-changing impact of early learning, she chose to become an educator herself. Adriana began her teaching career in an infant classroom and now leads toddlers in the Butterfly Class, where her calm, joyful presence nurtures confident, curious learners.

"I know firsthand how powerful early education can be," said Adriana Antonio-Lopez. "Now I get to pay it forward every day by helping children discover, grow, and feel proud of themselves. That’s the real reward."

Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Adriana brings a culturally responsive, bilingual approach to her teaching. Her hands-on lessons often extend to the garden, where children learn through exploration and play. She also supports fellow educators by sharing new strategies and assisting across classrooms.

Adriana continues to grow professionally while raising a family of her own. Since joining Guadalupe Center, she has earned her Florida Child Care Professional Credential, completed an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree. Her three daughters, all enrolled in Guadalupe Center programs, represent the generational impact of her journey from student to teacher.

"Adriana doesn’t just teach. She inspires," said Dawn Montecalvo, President and CEO of Guadalupe Center. "Her story reflects the power of education to transform lives, strengthen families, and uplift communities. We are proud to have her on our team."

FLAEYC recognized Adriana as a standout in early childhood education, celebrating her as a leader, a mentor, and a trusted bridge between culture, community, and the children whose futures she helps shape every day.
