HENDRY COUNTY – A 12-year-old Miami boy was killed in an off-road crash in Hendry County on Nov. 24, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred at 4:40 p.m. on a private dirt road, east of Doctors Hammock Road.
The 12-year-old was driving a John Deer Side by Side. A 41-year-old Miami man and a 9-year-old Miami boy were passengers on the vehicle.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left. The driver overcorrected by steering right. The vehicle subsequently overturned, according to the FHP report.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 9-year-old was seriously injured. He was transported to an area hospital. The 41-year-old received minor injuries, the report states.
The accident is under investigation by FHP.
