OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee County Fire Rescue and the MidFlorida Chapter of the Red Cross are pleased to announce the successful completion of the recent Sound the Alarm event! As part of National Sound the Alarm Month, Okeechobee was honored to be chosen as a Signature City for this important initiative. On Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, volunteers gathered at Riverbend Mobile Home Park to install free smoke alarms for local residents. Thanks to the dedication of  volunteers and the support of the community,  Sound the Alarm was able to make a significant impact in helping protect more homes throughout Okeechobee.
