Dear Residents and Commissioners,
I want to begin by acknowledging a reality we all know: Our city government has been under investigation for some time now over possible misconduct. I know this has caused frustration and a loss of trust among many of us. But I believe that while law enforcement carries out its work, we have a duty to focus on the future of our community.
Our youth and future residents deserve a city they can believe in. That’s why I’m proposing that we take a significant step forward: Take a commission vote and amend our Charter to include a measure on the 2026 ballot that allows City of Clewiston residents to elect their mayor directly.
Currently, the commission appoints the mayor. But by letting the people choose, we can restore a sense of trust and give everyone a voice in how we move forward. It’s not just about changing a procedure; it’s about showing that we are committed to transparency and to a government that listens to its residents.
As we let the law enforcement department do their jobs, we can also do ours by advocating for a more inclusive and representative local government. Together, we can build a Clewiston that stands for openness, accountability, and a brighter future for all. Let’s come together and make this happen.
