OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee Schools Superintendent Dylan Tedders held his second Town Hall of the year at the Okeechobee Schools Auditorium next to the school board offices on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Like the first one, there wasn’t a big turnout. Last time he held a Town Hall parents complained on Facebook that it had been scheduled at a bad time because it was held at around 1 o'clock in the afternoon. This time he held it from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and people in the audience still seemed to think it was too early.
“There is no good time for everyone,” Tedders said but he agreed to try the next one at around 6 p.m., the same time that school board meetings are held. “But we don’t have a lot of people show up for those either,” he added.
This time the small crowd may have been attributed to the heavy rainfall. The rain began about 30 minutes before the Town Hall started and continued throughout the evening.
One woman in attendance asked that the board give more advance notice of the Town Halls. The most recent notice was posted on Sept. 18, five days in advance, according to Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Dr. Joseph Stanley who was at the Town Hall meeting to take notes. Parents and teachers in attendance asked that it go up at least two weeks in advance to allow them more time to make plans to attend.
If anyone missed the first two Town Hall meetings and would like a chance to ask the superintendent questions, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on the Okeechobee County Schools App feed as well as their Facebook page (facebook.com/OkeeSchools). Tedders said he would like to hold at least four Town Halls in total, that would mean there could be two more still to come.
