OKEECHOBEE — If you’re looking for something to entertain the kids this summer, look no further. Okeechobee County has several activities and fun locations you can and your children can visit this summer.
Kid’s Day of Fishing
The Second Annual Kid’s Day of Fishing will be held on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. toi 2 p.m. at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center, located at 4601 SR 710 E. Kid’s Day of Fishing provides guidance and knowledge to the community youth interested in fishing. All tackle is provided by FWC and food, drinks and prizes by the Big O Teen Anglers. This event is free and open to any youth in the community. No registration requited. For more information, call 561-436-8491.
Arts & Crafts Days at Our Village
Our Village Okeechobee, located at 202 NE Second St. Suite 8, will host Arts & Crafts Days on June 15, 22, 29 and July 6, 13, 20 from 3 to 4 p.m. Explore your creative side with a variety of arts and crafts! This is open to any elementary school child and costs $15 per child. Additional children $10 per child. Discount for those who attend dance and arts & crafts.
Celebrate Juneteenth
The Douglas Park and Dean’s Court communities will host Juneteenth. This series of community-hosted events is free to the public and designed for all ages. The celebration begins Friday, June 19 at Douglas Brown Community Center located at 826 N.E. 16th Ave in Okeechobee. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The events continue throughout the weekend.
Father-Daughter dance
Healthy Start announces the return of their beloved Dancing Hearts Father-Daughter Annual Dance on Saturday, June 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Osceola Middle School in the gym, 825 SW 28th St. This special evening is designed to celebrate the meaningful bond between daughters and the father figures in their lives through music, dancing, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Fireworks Celebration
No summer is complete without fireworks on Independence Day. Okeechobee Fireworks, Inc. proudly presents Light Up Okeechobee, America’s 250th Birthday Celebration on Saturday, July 4, at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center, 4601 S.R. 710. Gates will open at noon to begin the festivities which will include, food vendors, live music, a car show, a BBQ competition, a cornhole tournament, and a kid’s fun zone. The fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. Bring the whole family for and watch Okeechobee light up the sky!
Sports Complex
Located at 580 NW 27th Lane, behind Yearling Middle School, the Sports Complex offers several attractions for kids to enjoy. They have a public swimming pool, a water park, and the biggest playground in Okeechobee. Entry to the water park and playground are free.
Kiwanis Skate Park and Pump Track
The skate park is located on 350 NW Sixth Avenue, next to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office. Entry is free and this concrete park features ramps and obstacles of various sizes. The park now features a pump track that can be used for skateboard, scooters, or bicycles.
Okeechobee Public Library
The Okeechobee Public Library is located at 206 SW 16th St. Every month they host storytimes, movie matinees, youth Dungeons & Dragons and more! They also offer book and crafting boxes. You pick up the box and build the crafts or read the books, they just ask that you return the boxes when you are finished. Each month features a different theme.

Uniquely You
Our Village, located at 202 NE Second St. Suite 8, offers a program called Uniquely You, an open play session for elementary and middle school children who are uniquely-abled. The session is every Wednesday and elementary school children are welcome from 1 to 3 p.m. and middle school children are welcome from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is completely free, just stop by. Bloom & Move Arts and Dance Camp
June 2 - June 25 (9-11 a.m.)
The Bloom & Move Arts and Dance Camp is a creative summer program designed for children ages 4–8, hosted at The Pottery Place, 113 S Parrott Ave. Cost is $75 for the whole camp. Call 863-623-7719 or email boxfitokeechobee@gmail.com to find out what you need to get your child enrolled.
Jimmy Gary Jr. Film Acting Camp
June 15 - June 16 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.)
This camp is held at Everglades Elementary School, 33725 SE Eighth St. This is a hands-on training experience for aspiring and developing actors. Participants will work on on-camera scenes, audition techniques, and character development while learning the discipline and confidence needed to perform on a real set. For ages 12-18. Cost is $299. O.Y.F.L. Football and Cheer Camp

Futsal Summer Camp
June 30 - July 23 (High School Age is from 7-9 a.m., Middle School Age is from 9-11 a.m.)
This camp is presented by Boxfit Okeechobee and will be held in the Yearling Middle School gymnasium, 925 NW 23rd Lane. This camp offers a dynamic, four-week program designed to elevate the skills and character of Okeechobee’s youth. There is a one time fee of $75.
