SAVE alerts first responders about disabilities

Posted

The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office encourages families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities to enroll in our S.A.F.E. Program.

This program allows important information to be securely entered into the county computer system and shared only with the Sheriff’s Office, Okeechobee County Fire Rescue, and the City Police Department. When a name, address, vehicle tag, or caregiver information comes through our system, it alerts first responders that a person with a disability, whether physical or cognitive, may be involved or present.

This advance notification helps emergency personnel respond with greater awareness, patience, and care. It ensures that individuals receive the attention they deserve, especially during emergencies where a caregiver may be injured or unable to communicate.

The S.A.F.E. Program is designed to help us better serve and protect our community by providing critical information when it matters most.

To enroll, forms are available at the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office or online at Okeesheriff.org.
