OKEECHOBEE — The School District of Okeechobee County is proud to honor our nation’s heroes through a series of Veterans Day events taking place across all schools this week. From assemblies and musical tributes to student-led flag ceremonies and classroom lessons, each school is coming together to celebrate the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Dr. Joseph Stanley, shared, “Veterans Day is an opportunity for our students to recognize the true meaning of service and sacrifice. It’s a day to pause, reflect, and express gratitude to those who have protected the freedoms we enjoy every day.”

Throughout the district, schools will host special programs featuring guest speakers, student performances, and moments of reflection. Many local veterans and active-duty service members will be participating in the events, as the district extends its deepest appreciation for their service.

The School District of Okeechobee County places great importance on ensuring students understand the historical and emotional significance of Veterans Day. Through classroom discussions, writing projects, and community engagement, educators help students connect the lessons of the past with the responsibilities of citizenship today.

“Our goal is to not only honor our veterans but to help our students understand why we honor them,” said Superintendent Dylan Tedders. “Teaching respect, gratitude, and civic pride are essential parts of our mission as educators and as a school district.”

The district encourages families and community members to recognize veterans and to take time to thank them for their service. Together, we stand united in appreciation for all who have bravely taken part in the defense of our nation.
