OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee County Schools is proud to announce that Destiny Suarez has been named one of five finalists for the 2026 Florida School Related Employee of the Year by the Florida Department of Education.

Mrs. Suarez, a paraprofessional at Everglades Elementary School, was recognized for her exceptional dedication to students, strong support of teachers, and positive impact on the school community. In a letter of recommendation submitted on her behalf, Everglades Elementary Principal RaeAnn Whiteside described Suarez as an essential member of the school team, noting her professionalism, willingness to go the extra mile, and the meaningful difference she makes in the lives of students each day.

According to Mrs. Whiteside, Mrs. Suarez works side by side with teachers to support students daily and is especially effective in small-group instruction. She takes time to understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses, helping ensure their needs are met in a meaningful and supportive way. Mrs. Whiteside also notes that students enjoy working with Mrs. Suarez and that being placed in one of her groups is highly sought after.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Mrs. Suarez volunteers her time at school events, including Trick and Treat Night and New Worlds Reading events, helping those activities run smoothly and successfully. Mrs. Whiteside states that Mrs. Suarez’s dedication and commitment have shown that she has “the right stuff for success” in education.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor for Destiny and for Okeechobee County Schools. School-related employees play a vital role in the success of our students and schools, and Destiny represents the very best of that work. Her care for children, commitment to service, and support for her school community make her highly deserving of this recognition,” said Superintendent Dylan Tedders.

Okeechobee County Schools congratulates Destiny Suarez on this outstanding achievement and is proud to celebrate her as a finalist at the state level.
