OKEECHOBEE COUNTY — The following column is the Road Watch report for Okeechobee County for the week beginning Sunday, Sept. 20, provided by the Florida Department of Transportation.
U.S. 441 and S.R. 70 in Okeechobee: (Special event) The Okeechobee High School Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2026, from approximately 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• The parade route will begin on Southwest 4th Street, continue north on U.S. 441, west on S.R. 70, and then to Southwest 7th Avenue, ending at Southwest Park Street.
• Motorists should expect temporary road closures, traffic delays, and detours along the parade route while the event is underway. The City of Okeechobee Police Department will provide traffic control during the event.
• Motorists should use caution, follow posted detour signs and law enforcement directions, and allow additional travel time when traveling through the area.
S.R. 15 from SE 126th Boulevard to SE 138th Avenue: (Permit project) Crews are performing overhead pole-hardening work along S.R. 15 in Okeechobee County.
• Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on northbound and southbound S.R. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, September 4, 2026.
• Crews will install utility poles and an overhead span crossing the roadway.
• Motorists are advised to use caution in the construction zone.
Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway. Estimated completion is September 2026, weather permitting.
