Okeechobee County is expecting unusually cold temperatures in the coming days. Please take the following precautions to protect yourself, your family, and your property.
Protect Yourself:
• Dress in layers and wear a hat, gloves, and warm clothing when going outside
• Limit time outdoors, especially during early morning and evening hours
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those with medical conditions
• Never use generators, grills, or other fuel-burning devices indoors due to carbon monoxide danger
Protect Your Home:
• Cover or bring in sensitive plants and outdoor vegetation
• Protect exposed pipes by wrapping them with insulation or letting faucets drip slightly
• Ensure your heating system is working properly
• Keep emergency supplies on hand, including flashlights, batteries, and blankets
Protect Your Pets and Livestock:
• Bring pets indoors or provide adequate shelter with warm bedding
• Ensure livestock have access to shelter and unfrozen water
• Check on animals frequently during cold snaps

A warming Center will open on Monday, January 26, at 5:00 PM through Friday, January 30, at RiteLife Services located at 202 NE 2nd Street, Okeechobee, Fl.
