The mayor told the council several weeks ago that he would not be able to make the meeting, and Vice Mayor Monica Clark took charge without any complications. In his more than 40 years of service to the community, this was only the second meeting Mayor Watford has ever missed. She said she has been on the council for five years and this was her first time leading the meeting. "I think this says a lot about Mayor Watford's dedication," she said.
One of the first items on the agenda was a recognition of School Choice Week. Representatives from the local homeschool community, as well as those from Rock Solid Christian Academy and Okeechobee Christian Academy were present to accept the proclamation. Vice Mayor Clark read the proclamation, which was signed by Mayor Watford in advance.
