OKEECHOBEE — A vehicle fire drew firefighters to Northwest 34th Street on October 6 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Okeechobee County Fire Rescue was dispatched and found a box truck with an engine compartment fire. Though the truck was parked near other vehicles and a motor home, the fire had not spread. The fire was quickly brought under control, and the battery was disconnected. The owner said he was having trouble with his ignition. The fire was determined to be electrical.

A dumpster was the scene of a fire on Oct. 9. OCFR was dispatched at approximately noon. Firefighters responded to Northeast 19th Drive. They found a 4-yard dumpster approximately 75 feet from the nearest building. The dumpster was about 50% involved. The fire was quickly extinguished. The cause was undetermined.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home on Southwest 23rd Terrace last week after a report of structure fire. The incident occurred on Oct. 10 at approximately 10:45 a.m. while OCFR was enroute, dispatch told them the home was not on fire. Instead, it was a pressure washer in the backyard. When the firefighters arrived, they entered the backyard and found a small electric pressure washer melted. A neighbor said he noticed the fire and rushed over to put it out. There was no damage to the structure, and the scene was determined to be safe and required no further assistance.

In total, OCFR responded to 138 calls between Oct. 6 and Oct. 12. These included 86 medical assistance, 19 motor vehicle accidents and an assortment of other calls.
