OKEECHOBEE — When election time rolls around this November, there won’t be many local races in Okeechobee on the ballot. And that’s because most of the incumbents are running unopposed.
David May, the Okeechobee County Supervisor of Elections, has announced that multiple local representatives are running unopposed this year, meaning they will be reelected to another term and continue serving Okeechobee.
Okeechobee County Commissioners Frank DeCarlo and Terry Burroughs are both unopposed, after no other candidates qualified. Burroughs was first elected to the Okeechobee County Commission back in 2014 before being reelected in 2018, and 2022. DeCarlo was first elected to the Board in 2022.
“I am truly grateful and honored to be unopposed as your candidate for Okeechobee County Commissioner, District 2,” said Commissioner DeCarlo. “I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve our community for another four years. We have some important issues and challenges ahead, and it’s going to take hard work and dedication to protect the quality of life we all care about.”
For the Okeechobee County School Board, three Board members are unopposed this year. School Board members Christine Bishop, Jill Holcomb, and Melisa Jahner will all serve another term on the Board.
“I am so blessed and grateful to be able to serve for four more years on the Okeechobee County School Board,” said Board member Melisa Jahner. “Looking forward to great things to come for our students and district.”
The current Supervisor of Elections in Okeechobee also ran unopposed back in 2024. The previous Supervisor, Melissa Arnold, announced that she had decided she would not seek re-election after the deadline for qualifying by petition had already passed. Only one candidate entered the race by paying the qualifying fee.
