MOORE HAVEN – A scam targeting Glades County residents was discussed at the July 27 meeting of the Glades County Commission.
A Lakeport resident received a letter stating an Islamic Mosque is planned in Moore Haven and asking for a donation of $75 to fight the development of the mosque. Local officials assured the resident there are no plans to build a mosque in Moore Haven.
The letters are part of a scam, residents were advised.
Several scams currently circulating target older residents, with telephone calls, letters and emails. The scams seem to intensify in election season, commissioners warned. Before sending any money or sharing any personal information, residents were advised to contact law enforcement.
