MOORE HAVEN- The Moore Haven Lady Terriers are off to a 3-0 start this season, including two big district wins.
Moore Haven opened the season with a 55-7 district win over Frostproof on Nov. 18. They followed that up with a 52-37 district win over Fort Meade on Nov. 20. Then, right before the Thanksgiving break, the Lady Terriers traveled to Lake Placid and secured a 55-24 win over the Lady Dragons on Nov. 21.
The Lady Terriers are coming off a successful season last year that saw them put together their best record since 2018. The team earned district runners-up honors last year, finishing with a 15-4 record.
Last season junior Sa'Nyree Myers played a big role in that success. Myers’ points per game average of 16-7 led the Lady Terriers and was the second highest in Moore Haven’s district. Myers is back this season as a senior and is currently on track to reach an impressive milestone of 1000 career points by the end of December 2025.
A standout feature of the team this season is the significant contribution of Seminole Tribe members Cherrish Micco, Charisma Micco, and Jalene Smith. These talented players have played crucial roles in the team's success, bringing a mix of skills and dedication to each game.
Last season was the Lady Terriers’ first under new coach Jeff Gonzales, who came over from coaching girls’ basketball at LaBelle Middle School. In addition to Myers, Cherrish, Charisma, and Smith, coach Gonzales also says that sophomore Chanel Hunter has been an early standout for the team.
After the Thanksgiving break the Lady Terriers will be back at home hosting the Glades Central Lady Raiders on Dec. 3. Then they’ll have a rematch against district for Fort Meade at home in Moore Haven on Dec. 4.
