Access to maternal health care should not depend on a ZIP code. Yet across rural communities like Okeechobee, families are facing growing barriers to prenatal and postpartum care as providers become harder to find and services are increasingly limited. On Maternal Health Awareness Day 2026 (Jan. 23), communities across the country are called to recognize both the challenges families face and the importance of ensuring every parent has the support needed for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Healthy Start Coalition of Okeechobee plays a critical role in closing these gaps. Through education, care coordination, and family-centered support, we connect pregnant people and new parents to essential health care services and trusted resources, regardless of income or insurance status. In a rural setting where access can be scarce, our work is not supplemental. It is essential.
The theme of Maternal Health Awareness Day emphasizes equity, access, and community-driven solutions. These values are at the heart of Healthy Start’s mission. From prenatal education and home visits to breastfeeding support, fatherhood engagement, and infant care resources, our work strengthens families by meeting them where they are and supporting their goals for healthy futures.
When parents have consistent access to care, information, and encouragement, outcomes improve for both parents and babies. Healthy Start’s programming helps families navigate complex systems, build confidence, and access the care they deserve during one of the most important times in their lives.
This critical work is made possible through the generous support of community members, corporate sponsors, and philanthropists who believe in healthy beginnings for every family.
On Maternal Health Awareness Day 2026, I invite you to stand with families and invest in maternal health.
