OKEECHOBEE -- The installation of a Huey helicopter on a pedestal near the Veterans Memorial in Flagler Park in downtown Okeechobee brought tears to one veteran's eyes.
"The Huey was as important as the Jeep was in World War II," said the Vietnam Veteran who declined to give his name. "It took your dead away, gave you mail and took you to the war zone.
"Every morning when you looked up, you hoped you saw a Huey. You prayed to God you saw a Huey, because you had support. You knew when you got wounded, you would go home to the U.S.A.
"To the poor guy who was out in the boonies, it meant everything."
