CLEWISTON — Hendry County Commission held a budget meeting on Tuesday, June 9, for county fire districts.
For the 2026-2027 fiscal year Montura Fire District’s estimated budget is $551,813, reporting an increase in repairs and maintenance, tires, fuel and operating costs.
Pioneer Fire Disctrict’s proposed budget is $413,613, reporting an increase in repairs and maintenance and fuel.
The Felda District’s proposed budget is $235,853, reporting an increase of in repairs and maintenance and fuel.
Clewiston City Fire proposed budget is $856,531 and the LaBelle City Fire proposed budget is $2,221,192.
Clewiston City Fire Chief Kevin McCarthy explained the significant increase in the Clewiston City budget compared to last year’s $587,342 is due to a dire need for new gear and equipment. He explained that most of the gear they are using is 30 years old, and the ladders and hoses on the trucks are around 20 years old.
LaBelle’s proposed fire budget increased by $401,212 compared to last year’s budget of $1,819,980.
