Habitat for Humanity Saint Lucie and Okeechobee, Inc. (Habitat SLO) is excited to welcome new Executive Director, Marcie Bergan. Marcie will lead the organization as it continues its mission of providing affordable homeownership opportunities and strengthening communities throughout St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties.

Bergan brings years of experience as both a Habitat leader and dedicated Habitat volunteer. Her leadership will build on Habitat SLO's 30-year legacy of serving local families through affordable housing initiatives, disaster recovery efforts, and neighborhood revitalization.

As Bergan assumes her new role, former Executive Director, Bob Calhoun, will transition to the position of Project Manager for Habitat SLO's community housing development program, CHDO, where he will continue advancing affordable housing development throughout our community.

“The Habitat community is excited to have a new leader of considerable experience and expertise who will begin the leadership of the next 30 years of success for Habitat’s service to St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties,” said Calhoun.

Celebrating Habitat SLO's 30th anniversary, a milestone made possible through the unwavering support of volunteers, donors, community partners, and local governments. The organization has also begun to expand its impact into Okeechobee County, its newest service area. With a generous donation from the PGA South Florida Foundation, they held their first groundbreaking ceremony in Okeechobee County on May 14th. "None of our work would be possible without the tremendous support of our community," said Bergan. "Every hand and every dollar truly make a difference."

Affordable housing remains one of Florida's most pressing challenges. Working together we strive to not only build homes but to change the generational wealth statistics here in the state. Beyond constructing affordable homes, the organization also assists homeowners by funding critical home repairs that help families remain safe in their homes for years to come.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to continue to make a difference in the lives of others and to address the dream of homeownership through affordable housing for many who otherwise would never own a home, said Bergan. She continued with,” I am grateful to be stepping into an organization with so many successes, including the home dedication for four families last week! I am so looking forward to working with all of you. I am excited for what is to come.”

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit 501c3 that strengthens families and communities by partnering with corporations, like minded individuals, community groups and faith-based organizations to come together to build and renovate simple decent affordable homes for hard – working families who need a hand-up, not a hand-out.
