Glades County Library accepting entries for 2026 Students Around the Lake Arts Contest

MOORE HAVEN — The Glades County Library will hold the 2026 Students Around the Lake Art Contest. This year’s art contest invites students to share their artistic vision of life around our beautiful lake. Whether it’s nature, wildlife, family moments, community life or reflections in the water - let your artwork tell the story.

Categories are:
• Primary: Kindergarten - second grade;
• Elementary: Third - fifth grades;
• Middle School: Sixth - eighth grades; and
• High School: Ninth - 12th grades.

Art Medium: Painting and drawing.

Rules and Information
• Rules, applications and art boards are available for pickup at the library.
• All participants must complete an application with parent/guardian’s approval signature.
• Deadline to turn in artwork is Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
• All artwork will be judged one week before the Art in the Park event.

• Art in the Park will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14.
•Artwork will be displayed in the library’s meeting room for public viewing and may also appear on the library’s social media platforms.
• All participants will be notified with the date and time of the “Meet the Judges” event at the library. During this event, winners will receive their awards, and all artwork will be available for pickup immediately afterward.
• Artwork not picked up after the event will remain at the library until the end of February, after which it will be discarded.
• Unclaimed prize money will be returned and will not be reissued unless coordinated with the library director.

Artwork description

All participants must attach a short description of their artwork on a separate piece of paper.

The description should include:
• Your name;
• Brief explanation (1-3 sentences) of how it represents the them Life Around the Lake;
• Any special techniques, materials or unique details you want to highlight to catch the judges’ eye.

This helps judges understand your inspiration and adds context for the public viewing. Please attach the description securely with your artwork.

Judging criteria will be based on:

• Creativity and originality;
• Relation to theme;
• Artistic effort and presentation.

Cash prizes for each category wukk be:
• First Place $100;
• Second Place $50;
• Third Place $25.
