OKEECHOBEE — The Third Annual George Parker Memorial Crappie Tournament, hosted by the Daniel Pitts with the Sunshine State Crappie Club, was held on Jan. 17 out of Okee-Tantie. More than 30 teams participated with lots of fish caught. Team A B & Lynn landed first place with 9.50 pounds, team Wayne & Robert came in second with 9.44 pounds and third place was Robbie & Joe.
This tournament is being held each year in Parker’s memory at the request of his family with all proceeds to be given to our only local youth fishing club, the Big O Teen Anglers. Tickets were sold for a cooler raffle, valued at almost $3,500, which raised $5,720 and a 50/50 raffle which raised another $650. A gentleman named Craig won the cooler raffle and Brad Gibson won the 50/50. Congratulations!
The Big O Teen Anglers cannot thank Daniel Pitts “Peanut”, Rosie Parker, Paul (Mr. Parker’s grandson) and Chase & Staff at Fast Break Bait & Tackle for all the effort put into this raffle and tournament each year. Special thanks go out to everyone that contributed to the success of the cooler raffle by donating items: G3 Outfitters, C4 Fishing Charters, M&S Crappie Guides, Tim at Ionic and everyone who mysteriously helped fill up with jigs, tackle, reels and a pole. I don’t know everyone but thank you! thank you!.
The BOTA has just finished its 20th year mentoring our love of fishing, friendship, community and conservation to our local youth and with continued community support, we’ll make it another 20 years.
Be sure to follow our monthly tournaments and keep your eyes open for our Second Annual “Kid’s Day of Fishing” in June and other events. If you have a youth angler interested in joining a great fishing club, become a boat captain or if you would like to make a donation or sponsorship, please reach out to Danielle at 561 436-8491.
