Three Lake Okeechobee teams had their week one games last week. Okeechobee, Clewiston, and Glades Day are all part of the Sunshine State Athletic Association (SSAA), which starts a week earlier than the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) teams. Still, the FHSAA teams did see some Kickoff Classic preseason action last week.
Okeechobee Brahmans (1-0)
The Okeechobee Brahmans introduced themselves to the SSAA last week, rolling past Glades Day 42-15 on the road in Belle Glade. Quarterback Noah Hazellief completed 9 of 15 passes, with Logan Zabel hauling in five catches to lead the receivers. The Brahmans running game looked legit, with Ashton Mobley and Elijah Gordon scoring multiple touchdowns. Okeechobee stays on the road this week, traveling to Riviera Beach to face the Suncoast Chargers on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Clewiston Tigers (0-1)
Clewiston opened its season at home on Aug. 13 and ran into a tough Frostproof team, falling 35-12 in a district contest. The Tigers get a quick turnaround and another home date, hosting the Immokalee Indians on Aug. 20. The Indians finished with an 8-3 record last season. The Tigers and Indians kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 at Cane Field.
Glades Day Gators (0-1)
Glades Day's season opener didn't go to plan, as the Gators dropped a 42-15 home decision to Okeechobee. The reigning SSAA 2A runners-up honored former Gators Coach Eric Pitts at halftime of the game. Pitts retired after 32 years with the program. The Gators will look to even their record on the road this week at Boca Raton Christian, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. on Aug. 20.
Glades Central Raiders (0-0)
Glades Central opened its preseason with a 17-12 win over Martin County in the Kickoff Classic. Rashawn Nembhard set the tone with a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first half, and the Raiders answered adversity in the third quarter by driving 85 yards for a Zhaire Davis 4-yard touchdown run. That drive came after two long touchdowns were wiped out by holding penalties. The Raiders open the regular season on the road at Palm Beach Central on Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Pahokee Blue Devils (0-0)
Pahokee's defense did the heavy lifting in a 9-3 Kickoff Classic win over Santaluces, holding the Chiefs to a single field goal in a low-scoring preseason tune-up. The Blue Devils, now in District 1A-10 under head coach Carlos Lammons Sr., open the regular season at home against Dr. Joaquin Garcia on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Anquan Boldin Stadium.
Moore Haven Terriers (0-0)
The Terriers drew a big-school test in their Kickoff Classic and came up short, dropping a 35-6 decision to Lakewood Ranch. The Terriers took the lead early in the game, but Lakewood battled back to take the win. Moore Haven, now in District 1A-7, opens the regular season on the road against the Aubrey Rogers Patriots in Naples on Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
