Survivor Empowerment Walk planned

Posted

The 19th Judicial Circuit Sexual Assault Response Team will host the 3rd Annual Survivor Empowerment Walk on Friday, April 10, bringing together communities across all four counties in a united show of support for survivors of sexual assault.

Held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this countywide event will take place simultaneously in each county.

The Okeechobee walk begins at 6 p.m. Participants need to meet by 5:30 p.m. on the corner sidewalk of Northeast Park Street and Southeast Second Avenue. If you have any questions contact Isabella at 772-801-9752.

The Survivor Empowerment Walk serves as a visible reminder that no survivor walks alone. Advocates, law enforcement, community partners, and community members will walk side by side while holding signs of empowerment that reflect messages of belief, strength, and solidarity. Teal flags and signs will be available for participants, and community members are welcome to simply stand in visibility and support. All forms of participation are valued, and support is welcomed in whatever way individuals feel comfortable.

“This walk demonstrates what it means for a community to stand together,” said Siobhan. “When we walk in unity across all four counties, we send a powerful message that survivors are believed, supported, and never alone.”

The event is open to the public, and community members of all backgrounds are encouraged to attend. Rape Crisis Counselors from the Sexual Assault Assistance Program will be present at each county location to provide immediate assistance for any survivor who may experience emotional distress or need support during the event.

The Survivor Empowerment Walk reflects an ongoing commitment across the 19th Judicial Circuit to strengthen partnerships, increase awareness, and ensure compassionate support for those impacted by sexual violence.
