LABELLE — At the meeting of the Hendry County Commission meeting on Tuesday, March 24, the board unanimously voted and approved to amend the Hendry County Land Development Code (LDC) Sec. 1-53, specifically Sec. 1-53-2, to provide a definition for inoperable vehicles.
This discussion has been ongoing for the last two board meetings where commissioners expressed concern that vehicles like race cars and buggies would fall under the definition suggested by Planning and Community Development Director Ryan Alexander.
Alexander stated that vehicles such as those that cannot have a registration will be specifically called out and not lumped into the inoperable vehicle category.
The approved definition for inoperable vehicles is:
(1) Any disassembled or partially disassembled vehicle from which parts, including, but not limited to, the chassis, engine, wheels, or tires have been removed; and/or
(2) Any vehicle without a valid, current registration and displayed tag; and/or
(3) Any vehicle on jacks, blocks, or lifts with flat tire(s) or which is otherwise incapable of movement under its own power and will remain so unless major repair or reconstruction occurs.
(4) Does not include farm equipment provided it meets the requirements in F.S. 604.40
This will not include off-highway vehicles.
