OKEECHOBEE -- Church of Our Saviour will host its second quilt display on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you have quilts you would like to display for the community to see, bring them by the church at 200 N.W. Third Street, on Friday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or on Saturday morning before 9 a.m.

The church held its first quilt display in the Spring of 2023, with approximately 140 quilts displayed in the sanctuary and hung along the outdoor colonnade. Parishioners made some of the quilts, but many were made by other members of the community. One of the quilts displayed was made from gowns worn by the owner's grandmother to the inaugural balls of President Truman and President Eisenhower. This quilt will be on display, along with one made in 1849.

The event is under the direction of a group of ladies who sew each month, making pillowcases for children with catastrophic illnesses and for the local nursing home. The sewing group in Okeechobee, along with a Palm Beach County group, has donated over 10,000 pillowcases in the last three years.

The church will provide lunch, and there will be a huge amount of fabric scraps available for a small donation to help finance more fabric for pillowcases. For more information, contact Chris Fuller at 863-697-2207  or Peggy Harlow at 863-763-4972.
