Posted
OKEECHOBEE -- At approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, Okeechobee Police Department received a call in reference to shots being fired in the 900 block on NW 11th Street.

The investigation suggests multiple shooters were involved; however, no injuries related to gunshots were reported. While bystanders were fleeing for safety an individual was struck by a vehicle, with the driver leaving the scene.

At this time, it is believed that the driver of the vehicle was not involved in the shooting and striking the victim was unintentional. The victim is in stable condition and being treated at Lawnwood Hospital. The names of the victim and suspects in both the shooting incident and hit and run incident are not being released at this time as the investigation is still active.
