OKEECHOBEE — The Juneteenth Celebration in Douglas Park June 19-21 turned out a big crowd. So many in the community came out to celebrate their history and look forward to the future. The Okeechobee Sheriff’s Department provided officers the entire weekend for the Juneteenth Celebration and the Juneteenth Committee appreciated their prescense and support. The Juneteenth Committee Members are: Aneta Faison, Chaka Cope, Terra Scurry, Pastor Sandi Bell, Kenneth Bell, Danyta Delagall, Vernon Harrison, Nick Gardener, Joni Smith, and Memarie Kendrick.
The weekend started with an evening of education and community dining at Douglas Brown Community Center located at 826 N.E. 16th Ave in Okeechobee. Youth Trivia contests were held for ages 6–12 and 13–17.
Saturday, June 20, was dedicated to outdoor recreation at the Willie Alderman Field located at 424 N.E. 15th Ave.
The weekend closed out on June 21 with a community yard sale and sports at the Willie Alderman Field.
