LOXAHATCHEE GROVES — On Aug. 10, Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR) announced that, by August 12, the final 155 beagles will have been released from Ridglan Farms into BDRR’s custody and care, including 141 puppies believed to be approximately four months old. In addition, Ridglan Farms has committed to permanently ending its dog-breeding, sales, research and testing operations.
This final transfer concludes a historic rescue mission that began April 29, 2026. In total, BDRR has rescued and relocated 2,115 beagles from Ridglan Farms.
“This agreement represents a historic victory for these beagles and for everyone who believes dogs deserve protection from cruelty,” said Lauree Simmons, Founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. “Every rescued beagle carries both a heartbreaking past and the promise of a hopeful future. We are grateful that these dogs are now safe, but our work will not be finished until dogs trapped in breeding and testing facilities are protected and these cruel practices come to an end.”
The newly rescued beagles will receive comprehensive veterinary evaluations and care, including vaccinations and spaying or neutering, before being placed in safe, loving homes.
Since the Ridglan rescue mission began, BDRR has received more than 8,000 adoption applications from across the country. The overwhelming response demonstrates how deeply Americans care about animal welfare—and how readily they will act when given an opportunity to help.
BDRR gratefully acknowledges the generous support of iPaw Rescue, an animal-welfare and philanthropic initiative founded by activist investor Carl Icahn, Robert and Perri Bishop Foundation, Satish Karandikar along with anonymous donors and BDRR Board Members. Their contributions helped make this outcome possible.
While BDRR celebrates the rescue of 2,115 beagles and the permanent closure of Ridglan Farms’ dog operations, the broader fight to end the use of dogs in laboratory testing continues.
“We will not stop fighting until dogs confined in breeding and testing facilities are safe,” Simmons said. “Today’s outcome shows what determined action and public compassion can accomplish.”
