INDIANTOWN — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been notified of the following scheduled closure of the CSX Railroad Bridge in Indiantown for underground utility installation. The following provides pertinent information:
PCL Civil Constructors Inc, acting on behalf of the bridge owner, CSX Transportation, has requested to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operating regulations and block the channel in the southern opening of the Seaboard Systems Railroad Swing Bridge over the St. Lucie Canal (Okeechobee Waterway) mile 28.2 at Indiantown.
Under this temporary authorization, PCL Civil Constructors is authorized to keep the bridge in the closed to navigation position and block the waterway beneath the Seaboard Systems Railroad Swing Bridge alternating weeks beginning May 17 through July 18, for the replacement of machinery components.
During this time period, with the closure, one span will remain clear for vessels that are able to navigate beneath without a requested opening. Vertical clearance of the bridge in the closed position is 7 feet MHW. During the closure weeks, full openings will be provided on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 11 a.m.. Work will be conducted during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week through completion.
The bridge will operate in accordance with its regular operating schedule, fully functional with both spans clear for navigation during the below time periods:
May 24 through June 6
June 14 through June 20
June 28 through July 11
On July 19, return to normal ops per 33 CFR 117.5, pending any approved delays.
The work barge will remain in place surrounded by a turbidity curtain in the respective spans, on the dates listed, throughout the duration of work. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution.
The U.S. Coast Guard will announce a detailed schedule to the temporary channel restriction in the Local Notice to Mariners and via a Broadcast Notice to Mariners. This authorization may not be changed or extended without written approval from the U.S. Coast Guard. This temporary authorization is conditional and may be withdrawn at any time if the U.S. Coast Guard determines that the safety of human life, the environment, or the needs of navigation become endangered. The imposition of civil penalties may result for failure to ensure that all requirements of this temporary authorization are followed in their entirety.
