These local and county seats are up for election this year

There are several local seats up for election in Collier County including the Clerk of Courts and Comptroller, due to the recent passing of Dwight Brock. Three seats on the school board, those representing Districts 1, 3 and 5 and two county commission seats, those representing Districts 2 and 4 will also be up for election. Candidates who have filed so far are: incumbent Roy Terry in District 5; school board challengers Jory Westberry in District 1; Victor Dotres, Jen Mitchell and Kathy Ryan in District 3; Darlene Alvarez, and Mary Ellen Cash in District 5. Incumbent Republican Andy Solis in Collier County Commission District 2 is being challenged by Republican Brad Schiffer. Incumbent Republican Penny Taylor in Collier County Commission District 4 is being challenged by Republican Stephen Jaron in the Primary. The winner of that race will face off against Democratic Gary Petit-Dor in the General Election. School board incumbents Kelly E. Lichter in District 1 is not seeking reelection nor is Erika Donalds in District 3 seeking reelection. Locally Seats 1, 3 and 5 are up for re-election with the Immokalee Fire Control District. Qualifying for this year’s elections ends at noon on June 22 and the Primary Election occurs Aug. 28, voter registration deadline is July 30. The General Election is Nov. 6, with the voter registration deadline on Oct. 9. As of June 14, 206,805 people were registered to vote in Collier County, Republicans:105,394 Democrats:48,484 Others:52,927.
