Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc. awarded $44,000 from Martin County and United Way of Martin County

Suncoast Mental Health Center, Inc (SMHC) is a leading non-profit mental health agency on the Treasure Coast that provides psychiatric, counseling, and case management services to at-risk children, adults, and families. SMHC was founded in 1998 by three local clinicians with a mission to provide an environment that nurtures the child, affirms the adolescent, and empowers the adults and family. Serving in all four counties along the Treasure Coast: Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee, the organization is dedicated to community-based and family-centered care in a variety of settings that include homes, schools, and activity centers.

Due to COVID-19, Suncoast has seen an increased need for mental health services. Residents that have not reached out for mental health services previously are now seeking help due to anxiety, fear, and depression caused by the stress of this pandemic. United Way of Martin County is helping Suncoast protect the health of the community through funding for individual therapy, group therapy, and case management services for adults in Martin County to encourage resilience during COVID-19. The funding was made available by Martin County Board of County Commissioners through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Focusing on education, income and health, United Way of Martin County is a nonprofit organization that works in a coalition of charitable organizations to pool efforts in fundraising and support.

Bravely, they dream of a day when no one in Martin County goes to bed hungry. They dream of strong, successful families and a united community where everyone is healthy and has the opportunity to succeed, reaching their fullest potential in a safe and secure place.

This unique partnership will address the current COVID-19 crisis through mental health services and forge a new path to wellness. By mobilizing funding through individual therapy, group therapy, and case management, SMHC will help ensure positive mental health for adults in Martin County.
