SOUTH BAY – A pedestrian died early Monday morning after being involved in a traffic accident while crossing a road in South Bay.
Around 4 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2022, a 27-year-old South Bay woman was driving a 2020 Chevy Impala, westbound on Palm Beach Road, approaching the intersection of Southwest Second Avenue in the left lane, the PBSO report states. The area near the intersection was not illuminated by any lighting and was very dark, the report continues.
A pedestrian was crossing Palm Beach Road, from south to north, east of the intersection, wearing a black hat, black sweater and dark gray shorts. As the Impala approached, the pedestrian entered the left travel lane. The front of the Impala impacted the right side of the pedestrian, according to the PBSO report. The pedestrian was “projected to the ground and later impacted by an unknown amount of vehicles,” the report continues.
Post-collision, the Impala driver pulled into the left turn lane. The driver did not observe the pedestrian and departed the scene, the report continues. The driver is currently cooperating with the PBSO investigation.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has identified the pedestrian as Charlie Simmons, 42, of Belle Glade.
