PBCSD becomes key partner in a teacher and school leader grant from the U.S. Department of Education

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH - The School District of Palm Beach County is one of four school districts participating in a multi-year, multi-state partnership entitled Project IGNITE, Innovation Generated by Networked Improvement Teams of Educators, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s 2020 Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program (TSL).

Led by Insight Education Group, Project IGNITE brings support and growth opportunities for teachers and school leaders in 49 schools across four districts in Florida, Mississippi, New York, and Texas.

Through the project’s Networked Improvement Community (NIC), principals, school leaders, teacher leaders, and teachers are provided with a wide network of peers for impactful, job-specific collaboration. In addition, the project uses a systems-level approach to improving student achievement, with evidence-based interventions including strategic planning, instructional leadership teams, professional learning communities, leadership academies, instructional coaching, an online virtual coaching platform, and recruitment and retention.

“Through IGNITE, we have an amazing opportunity to gain greater traction on our biggest priorities, especially in our highest-need schools,” said Dr. Gonzalo La Cava, Chief of Human Resources. “The work of school improvement is ever-changing and complex. Thanks to this networked improvement community, we’ll partner with other educators across multiple states to learn, share and scale what’s really working-all with the shared goal of improving educational outcomes for our students.”

The project brings structures and funding for over 500 jobs and will reduce turnover by retaining teachers through a variety of incentives. The grant will also serve as an engine to produce more qualified workers for the local communities by improving student achievement. In addition to The School District of Palm Beach County, the other participating districts include:
• Jackson Public Schools (Jackson, MS);
• Syracuse City School District (Syracuse, NY); and
• Greenville Independent School District (Greenville, TX).
