MARTIN COUNTY -- Martin County Sheriff's Office [MCSO] divers were searching alligator-infested waters on the Hungryland Wildlife Preserve on Thursday. Human body parts were discovered Wednesday night " near a gator infested canal bank about three miles inside the park," according to a MCSO post on Facebook.
According to reports, a state biologist spotted what appeared to be a human arm in an alligator's mouth on Wednesday.
The arm was apparently recovered, and a search is underway.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told WPTV they have not ruled out the possibility that someone fell into the water or died of natural causes.
The sheriff said a sniper was keeping a watchful eye on the gators while the divers searched the water.
The park will remain closed until investigators clear the scene.
Hungryland Preserve covers more than 16,600 acres in Martin and Palm Beach counties.
