BELLE GLADE — The Glades Day Lady Gators varsity volleyball team has scored to win against opponents around the lake this season.

The Lady Gators opened their season with a 3-0 win over the Moore Haven Lady Terriers on Sept. 8 and defeated the Clewiston Lady Tigers 3-0 on Sept. 23.

Against the Lady Terriers, senior Ruth Lively lead the team in kills with six, followed by sophomore Peyton Pelham and freshman Olivia Sanford, who both had five. Lively also led the team in aces with seven. Junior Audrey Ascheman had seven assists against Moore Haven followed by sophomore Nicki Ruiz with five.

Sanford had two total blocks against the Lady Terriers, with one being a solo block and the other an assist shared with Lively.
Glades Day won the first set 25-12, second set 25-7, and third set 25-14.

The Lady Gators were on the road to take on the Clewiston Lady Tigers on Sept. 23. Against Clewiston, Pelham led the team with an impressive 12 kills followed by Sanford with five.

Freshman Kelsey Kennedy led the Lady Gators in aces with three. Pelham and Lively weren’t far behind with two each. Ruiz had a team-leading 17 assists against the Lady Tigers.

Clewiston had actually taken an early lead against Glades Day in the first set, but a diving save by Pelham helped spark a turnaround. The Lady Gators would go on to win the set 25-16.

That first set would prove to be the closest the Lady Tigers would get, as Glades Day went on to win the second set 25-9 and third set 25-11.

The Lady Gators will be facing another local team, LaBelle, on the road on Oct. 5. They also have a rematch against Clewiston, this time in Belle Glade, on Oct. 6.

Up next, Glades Day will head to Delray Beach to take on American Heritage on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.
