The Roberts Center, located 905 Roberts Avenue in Immokalee, is one of four different facilities in Collier County to promote senior health. Besides enhancing knowledge about health, The Roberts Center offers various activities such as: field trips, educational activities and games, and a chance to eat lunch and socialize with other seniors. However, guest that went to the center, were subjected to white faceless walls. Fortunately, all of this has changed. Several organizations: The Rotary Club of Immokalee, Goodwill Industries, Immokalee Friendship House, Justin’s Place, VITAS Healthcare, Jack and Ann’s Feed & Supply, Rotary Club of Naples Bay, FL Star Construction, and Collier County Nutrition Program joined forces to give the faceless walls a big smile. These organizations formed the Project Planning Committee and decided on colors. FL Star Construction donated several gallons of Sherwin Williams’s paint, the community pulled together recruiting about 17 volunteers who wanted to give back to the community. The painters, volunteers from Justin’s place and the Friendship House, showed true dedication to the project as they eagerly got to work and painted the center flawlessly. The Rotary club purchased a large flat screen television to replace the outdated tube television to be mounted on one of the newly painted walls. However, this is not the end of this project. In phase II, the community will paint two inspirational murals on the walls entering the dining/rec room. This project demonstrates the love and compassion that we have in this community. As Vicki Gauze, President of the Rotary Club of Immokalee and Executive Assistant to the CEO of the Healthcare Network of SWFL, says: “Success is defined by accomplishing a common goal for the betterment of others. Don’t let the lack of money hinder what you want to do. Pursue your goals, share with others and be prepared to receive.”
