IMMOKALEE - The Collier County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle just before 4:30 this morning on State Road 29 near Oquinn Road.
Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle on its side and immediately shut down State Road 29 so that firefighters and EMS could assess the scene.
Collier County EMS confirmed both the driver and passenger had died as a result of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrived and assumed the investigation.
Their report indicates that the vehicle was traveling south on State Road 29 heading into Immokalee when it left the roadway onto the right shoulder, overcorrected and then overturned onto the southbound lane of State Road 29.
The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the names of the driver or occupant but identified the driver as a 21 year old man from Immokalee and the passenger as a 51 year old man from Immokalee.
It’s not known at this time why the vehicle left the roadway as the investigation continues.
