Our visitors, volunteers, and staff are our family. In order to protect their health and well-being, and to help stop the spread of COVID-19, we are closing Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary starting Monday, March 16, 2020 until at least Monday, March 30, 2020. Our Blair Audubon Visitor Center and boardwalk are closed to the public. We will continue to monitor the situation with direction from the State of Florida.
We thank our neighbors and stakeholders for their understanding during this unusual time. Staff will continue to protect and monitor the Sanctuary’s 13,000 acres while following CDC guidance and social distancing practices.
As many of us are already complying with thorough hygiene and social distancing recommendations, it is easy to become overwhelmed. The National Audubon Society has put together a "care package" of our favorite videos, photo albums, and articles about birds—we hope it provides a moment of joy whenever you might need it. As we continue to monitor the situation, stay tuned for updates on our Facebook page or on our website.
Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, recently recognized as the newest Wetland of Distinction by the Society of Wetland Scientists, has been an Audubon-protected nature site for more than 100 years. It protects 13,000 acres, including the world’s largest remaining, old-growth bald cypress forest. An estimated 100,000 visitors annually explore the Sanctuary’s 2.25 miles of boardwalk through ancient forest and marsh habitat.
