BELLE GLADE — A 20-year-old Belle Glade man has been charged with attempted first degree murder.
Zakevious Kirk, also known as “Bang Out Papa,” was arrested May 31.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) arrest report, deputies responded to the area of Southwest Fifth Street in Belle Glade in reference to a shooting. While en-route, deputies learned a victim was shot in the chest. Additional 911 callers reported seeing two black males, one wearing a ski mask, riding in the area of the shooting on dirt bikes.
While awaiting paramedics, the victim reportedly told deputies that “Poppa” shot him, and later clarified it was “Bang Out Poppa” and identified a photo of Kirk as “Bang Out Poppa.”
The victim’s mother witnessed the shooting, according to the report. She reportedly told deputies she was outside of her apartment building watching her son return from a friend’s house when she heard gunshots and saw her son fall. She also reported seeing a dirt bike flee the scene.
In an interview at St. Mary’s Medical Center, the victim told detectives he knows the shooter by sight and nickname but did not have any issues with Kirk and did not have any idea why Kirk would have shot him. He suggested Kirk may have mistaken him for someone else.
