By mid-morning, hundreds of local residents lined up to receive free Thanksgiving Day meals provided by a collaborative effort between the Guadalupe Center and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. As volunteers crowded into the pavilion at the Airport Park to help prepare the food, those in need made their way to the park by car and on foot. Children played on the playground equipment as their parents looked on while DJ Bad Boy livened up the crowd. Melissa Torres with the Guadalupe Center said that they had roughly 100 volunteers on hand to help serve the roughly 2,000 people in need on this Thanksgiving Day. In what has become an annual tradition for the Immokalee area, families lined up as the food was made ready by the volunteers who helped prepare main dishes and deserts. St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church worked with area residents and organizations in Naples to help collect donations on Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving Day.
