CORKSCREW SWAMP SANCTUARY — The “Super” Ghost Orchid is in bloom, Hendry-Glades Audubon Society alerts wildlife spotters. Its first flower of the season appeared Thursday, June 27, and there are multiple buds, meaning more flowers could bloom shortly. At Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, in Collier County, they usually have a spotting scope trained on it for visitors. Bring binoculars (they rent them there) or a camera with a good lens.The “Super” Ghost Orchid is perched 50 feet up in an old growth bald cypress tree 100 feet off the sanctuary’s famous boardwalk, so the blooms usually can’t be seen with just the naked eye.
