It’s not uncommon for local high school bands to be invited to perform at national events. After all, we have many talented students and athletes who have put southwest Florida on the map. And in Immokalee, things are no different. On Saturday, December 16, Immokalee High School Marching Band had the outstanding honor to perform at the Universal Studios Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s. Performing at a major theme park such as Universal Studios is no small accomplishment as just over 10 million park goers visit the park annually. To put that into perspective, Immokalee has just over 24,000 residents and it’s fair to say that a good portion of them watched the Immokalee High School Marching Band perform during the Christmas Parade on Main Street. But, on any given day at Universal Studios, roughly 27,000 visitors pass through the gates. When the parade starts, movement within the park is limited as the majority of the park’s attendees rush to get a glimpse of the floats, bands and characters. Making the band’s performance special this year was the number of Immokalee residents who happened to be at the park on Saturday. Some even made the trip just to see their relatives perform. Local resident Atla Lozano posted on Facebook saying “Waited all day to see my grandson march at Universal. Proud grandma. IHS did a great job.” To watch the band’s performance on YouTube, search for Almo34142.
