Dog attacks child and grandmother

OKEECHOBEE — On Sunday, Dec. 4, 2023, Okeechobee Police Department responded to a call of service in the 300 block of NE 8th Avenue in reference to a dog bite complainant.

Upon arrival, Officer D. Nails learned that a 5-year-old male, and his grandmother were attacked by the owner’s brown pit bull. The two were visiting family when the attack happened. The juvenile suffered injuries to his ear and head and the grandmother sustained injuries to her arms. Due to the gravity of the injuries, both subjects were flown out to St. Mary’s Medical Center and are in stable condition.

The animal was confiscated by Animal Control and will be euthanized. This is the second reported bite from the dog and the owner was citied previously.
