Okeechobee County Commissioners Chairman David Hazellief and the Board of County Commissioners and Okeechobee County Fire Rescue Department along with Okeechobee High School and the Education Foundation of Okeechobee were honored to welcome Senator Erin Grall for Florida District 29 and staff from Representative Kaylee Tuck House District 83 to the “Okeechobee High School Fire CTE Academy Showcase” held at the Okeechobee County Fire Rescue Training Tower on May 9.
Senator Grall was able to see firsthand training exercises from students and hear about the students incredible achievements and the impact of our community-driven initiatives.
The groundbreaking Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program for “Intro to Firefighting” and the “Dispatch Program” both began in January 2024 at the Okeechobee High School. These initiatives are supported by funding awarded from the Florida Department of Education.
The “Intro to Firefighting” program ensures students master vital safety procedures, firefighting techniques, and first responder medical protocols. The program emphasizes hands-on exercises, industry visits, and interactive modules, ensuring students are well-equipped for the professional environment.
