A longtime Immokalee Foundation supporter, Physicians Regional Healthcare System hosts Foundation student interns at their Pine Ridge and Collier Boulevard facilities during the summer, and serves as the leading Healthcare Pathway sponsor throughout the academic year.
Founded in 1991, The Immokalee Foundation provides a comprehensive continuum of support for students, beginning with early literacy in elementary school and continuing through career exploration, immersive learning experiences, and postsecondary education—ultimately guiding students toward long-term professional success. The Career Panel is a cornerstone of the Foundation's Healthcare Pathway, offering students invaluable access to industry leaders and real-world insights.
The popular Physicians Regional event brought together a diverse group of physicians, administrators, and healthcare professionals who shared personal stories of their career journeys, discussed the realities of healthcare work, and offered practical advice on education, training, and professional growth.
A highlight of the evening was the interactive Q&A session, which sparked meaningful dialogue around specialties, workplace environments, and emerging trends in medicine.
Among the most impactful discussions was a question about the role of mentorship in shaping career paths. Panelists emphasized that it is never too early to begin building relationships with mentors who can provide guidance and support. They shared how mentorship at every stage of life can make a significant difference, often leading to more successful and fulfilling career journeys.
Another popular topic focused on the unexpected challenges and rewards encountered in healthcare careers. Panelists spoke candidly about obstacles, including language barriers—an experience that resonated with many families in attendance. Despite these challenges, panelists reinforced the importance of perseverance, purpose, and a commitment to serving others as key drivers of success.
The event also underscored the importance of community support and family engagement. Parents expressed appreciation for the opportunity to better understand the Career Pathways available to their children, while students left with renewed motivation and a clearer vision for their futures.
"I am always so impressed with The Immokalee Foundation students that we get a chance to work with—and while they're learning from us, our team's learning from them," said Scott Lowe, Market CEO of Physicians Regional Healthcare System. "It's an incredible collaboration; having the ability to work with these very motivated young people and hopefully foster their dreams."

For students at every stage of the program, the event delivered meaningful value. Middle school students continued their in-depth exploration of the variety of careers available. Freshmen and sophomores had the opportunity to share their learning experiences with their families, including exposure to advanced medical technologies such as robotic systems used in surgery.
Healthcare Pathway Juniors gained valuable networking opportunities as many prepare for summer internships with Physicians Regional. Seniors were able to build professional connections and explore next steps as they transition beyond high school graduation.
"This event truly reflects the power of partnership and possibility," said Noemi Y. Perez, President and CEO of The Immokalee Foundation. "By connecting our students and their families with dedicated healthcare professionals, we are not only opening doors to meaningful careers but also helping our students see what is possible for their futures. The guidance, encouragement, and real-world insight shared during this event are invaluable as our students continue their journeys toward becoming the next generation of healthcare leaders."
