City of LaBelle elects new mayor

LABELLE - The City of LaBelle has elected a new mayor. Results from the Aug. 18 primary election posted by the Hendry County Supervisor of Elections show that incumbent Mayor Julie C. Wilkins was defeated by Vince Ross.

Vince Ross earned 408 votes, while Julie C. Wilkins earned 291. Incumbent Jackie Ratica was successful in her re-election campaign as Tax Collector on the LaBelle City Commission. Ratica earned 359 votes, defeating Allen Pickles who earned 329 votes.

“I am incredibly humbled and grateful for the trust you have placed in me tonight,” said Mayor-elect Vince Ross after his victory. Thank you to every person who voted, prayed for us, encouraged us, volunteered, shared our message, or supported Team LaBelle in any way.

“I also want to thank Mayor Julie Wilkins for her years of service to our city and wish her and her family the very best,” continues Mayor-elect Ross. “She has dedicated years to this community, and I want to recognize her devotion and love for LaBelle.”

Outgoing Mayor Wilkins thanked the community of LaBelle for the opportunity to serve them over the last 11 years.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve LaBelle these past 11 years, as a commissioner and mayor”, said Mayor Wilkins. “I am very grateful for the love, support and prayers I have received.  I thank God for all of you.”
