Avellaneda opens office in LaBelle

After serving as a faculty member for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Jackson Health System for 20 years, Dr. Victoria Bustamante Avellaneda is proud to announce the opening of her Private Practice, providing psychological services, in LaBelle.

Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda recently retired from the Jackson Health System where she was the Clinical Director for the Center for Behavioral Medicine and the Director of Training for the Psychology Fellowship Program.

Professionally, she has a wealth of experience, including serving as a faculty member for the University of Miami Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda has participated in several research studies sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and has published several articles on a broad range of topics including PTSD, HIV, and neuropsychological changes associated with medical illness.

As a behavioral medicine specialist, she has worked with patients and families affected by HIV, cancer, diabetes, transplantation, pain, and neurological disorders. She has served diverse cultural and ethnic populations coping with acute and chronic issues secondary to medical illnesses. She has ample experience in the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, psychosis, PTSD, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, chronic pain, personality disorders, and concurrent substance abuse.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, she provides evidence-based interventions as well as holistic mind-body approaches to address the multifactorial aspects of emotional disorders. Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda effectively assists her patients in healing from emotional pain and in changing the negative behavior patterns that are affecting their lives.

Dr. Victoria Bustamante is a native of Madrid, Spain. Her family later moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where she was raised. She began her college education in Caracas at the Catholic University Andres Bello where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. In 1982, she moved to the United States and completed her Master’s Degree at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland. After working for Maryland’s Developmental Disability Administration for several years, she relocated to Miami, Florida, where she obtained her Doctoral Degree in Psychology with a concentration in Neuropsychology from Albizu University.

Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda recently retired from Jackson Health System and continues working as a voluntary faculty member for the University of Miami, Department of Psychiatry, where she supervises and teaches post-doctoral psychology students and psychiatric residents.

Currently, Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda lives in Hendry County, with her husband, Henry Avellaneda, a retired Major from the US Air Force. Together they have six children and nine grand-children.

Dr. Bustamante Avellaneda’s private practice is located in the Forrey Building, 270 N Bridge Street, LaBelle. She offers bilingual (English and Spanish) psychological services that include individual, couples, and family psychotherapy, as well as psychological assessments.
